A light blink followed the woman's comment as she walked by straight towards Route 29. Yes, Kitkat was a trouble-maker, and officially addicted to food that wasn't good for her. They'd get along swimmingly. Kitkat stared up at Renly as he straightened, and she almost looked offended she wouldn't be joining him in the air. But she completely ruined his chance of some good freaking coffee so no, he wasn't going to carry her. After a second of dusting off his clothes, Renly shouldered his bag and stared a bit sadly at the beginning of the route. Great. Time to... get started, he supposed. With that, he sucked in a breath and clicked for Kitkat to follow, which she thankfully did. Maybe she could smell the candy still in his pocket.
The young woman with her Totodile from the lab was standing near the entrance to the route, and he figured this was as good time as any to introduce himself. At the very least, she wasn't a part of the younger crowd of trainers who all received their Pokémon today... so she would hopefully be less of a pain to see on a regular basis. Seeing as she was checking her phone, Renly made his presence fairly known by slapping his feet as hard as he could on the ground. "Name's Renly," he greeted, quirking an eye in her general direction.

Mikayla glanced up once Renly began to speak. "Mikayla. I suppose you could call me Mack." She glanced at him from the corner of her eye, of course she had then received a text from her dad wishing her luck and that he had already heard all about the lab incidents. She sent off a quick text before shoving it back into the pocket of her jeans. "Guess we better get a move on eh?" She sounded oh-so-thrilled, though that story was for another time and not with a practically complete stranger she just met a little over thirty minutes ago in the lab. Her totodile wiggled itself out of her arms and down onto the ground where it yawned and began to wander into the tall grass. She quirked a brow at the small reptile thing and sighed. "Damn thing. Better follow."
She stepped into the tall grass, which... didn't seem to be all that tall, though she supposed the name was more for the youngsters that were still starting out on their journey. She could see Trelawney making his way through it without a care in the world, though he was at least polite enough to glance back on occasion to make sure she was following him. Part of her hoped that the creature would actually do some damage so she could return him, the other half had grown quickly fond of the quirky creature that was now her child to care for. Though it definitely seemed to be a "stick a fork in the outlet" kind of child with how he had wandered off so quickly and without a care. She should be concerned, she vaguely thought but ignored it in favor of watching as Trelawney began to chase something back towards her.
A shiny sentret popped out of the grass, seemingly fearing for it's life as the Totodile chased it with it's mouth on full display. "Oh fuck, well hope I'm not imagining this one." She mumbled to herself. Though she grabbed one of the pokeballs that the professor had given them and waited for the chance to catch it, before it finally stopped in it's tracks by her. Obviously now that it was trapped, it would have no choice but to either battle or continue being chased by the monster that Trelawney was.

Mack. A strange nickname to come from Mikayla, but he supposed it made sense in an odd sort of way. Renly really didn't get much time to ponder over such a thing before the young woman in question was trailing after her Totodile. On other occasions, he would've probably turned around and left her to her own devices, but seeing as it was the beginning of their journey and unfortunately, they were going in the same direction, Renly had no other option but to follow. Kitkat trotted at his side, the obedient little thing, despite the fact that she'd openly revolted against his commands when shoving coffee and candy down her throat and completely ruining his breakfast. But... well, at least she was calm for right now. That was all that mattered.
Mack eventually fell out of his line of sight when she started grumbling and chasing after her Totodile, leaving Renly to wonder what in the world had gone on. Not a second later though, something rustled in the grass and with a screech that could only be fueled by the amount of caffeine coursing through her veins, Kitkat threw herself into the grass. A squeak sounded, and when Renly whipped his head around, he saw his little Cyndaquil tackling a Patrat out of the grass. The thing snarled, baring his tiny teeth and slicing his claws along her back, but Kitkat was surprisingly hardy in that regard. With the power of a wrestler, she slammed her head straight into the Patrat's, who screamed in frustration. Except, Kitkat was not a pro-wrestler and also reeled back with pain, causing both Pokémon to take a break to rub their heads in mourning.
And Renly took this perfect opportunity to throw a Pokéball at the Patrat.
Not exactly the exact thing he wanted to catch, but it was better than nothing, really. And he had to start growing his team, because relying on Kitkat to keep him safe... didn't really seem smart. And at the very least, he knew Patrat were watchful creatures, so something that could alert him of danger before he walked headfirst into it would be fairly useful. The ball clicked, and there. He'd caught his first Pokémon. A Patrat, yes, but his aunts would be proud. Kitkat nudged the ball with her long nose as Renly scooped it up and released the Patrat again, who seemed a little disoriented at first. "Come on, you... I gotta think of a name, don't I?" The Patrat blinked up at him, seeming to be a little offended, but thankfully trotted after Renly as he pondered over names while trying to find Mack. Kitkat seemed to take a liking to the Patrat, even though she'd almost crushed its skull, though that may have been the caffeine in works.

Trelawney had managed to headbutt the poor thing, seemingly making it a bit dizzy from the force of it. The Totodile must've had a head of steel or something seeing as he merely stumbled back from the force but quickly righted himself. The Sentret placed it's paws... or hands, whatever they were called on it's head and whined pathetically. While Mikayla wasn't normally a fan of normal types, it was a shiny and she needed to have it after all. "Alright..." She waited a moment longer before throwing the Pokéball at the Sentret. It was at least better than nothing for the time being until she could get her true team started. It would do as a temporary team member, Trelawney picked up the Pokéball and walked over to Mikayla. She bent down and took the Pokéball from Trelawney's mouth.
She released the Sentret from the Pokéball and the small rat creature hide behind Mikayla at the sight of Totodile again so soon. She sighed and picked up the plush Pokémon. "I'm gonna name you noodle rat." She decided with finality, of course she'd give it some sort of funny name. "Or noodle for short. It works." She sighed and then glanced around, Trelawney having taken off again. "God damn it you stupid blue crocodile thing." She spotted it not too far off, following after it with the Sentret in her arms. She watched as Trelawney walked up to Renly and pointed towards Mikayla.
"Looks like you caught yourself a new Pokémon. It'll be a decent guard one when it evolves." She shrugged, the Sentret moving to sit on top of her shoulder as it looked at Renly wearily. "I caught this thing, it's name is noodle rat, or noodle for short." She bit her lip to keep from grinning at the absurd name she gave the creature, in all fairness though, furrest was like a long noodle. But ya know... Much fluffier. "I suppose we should keep going then? Or train for a bit... or whatever we're supposed to be doing as trainers." She moved the Sentret off of her shoulder once it started to mess with her hair and set it on the ground where Trelawney started to taunt it with an evil glare and a grin that showed off his teeth.

Seeing a fairly strange colored Sentret atop of Mikayla's shoulders had Renly quirking an eye at the sight. How lucky she managed to be find a shiny version of the species, though... it was fairly unlucky to be the one called 'Noodle Rat'. That had to be some sort of Pokémon cruelty, though he shouldn't be the one judging the young woman on her nicknaming abilities. His Cyndaquil was named Kitkat, after all. That... had him rethinking the way he named his Pokémon, and after a roll of his eyes at the woman, he turned to stare down at the Patrat, who could only scowl at the sight of more people and Pokémon. Kitkat though was stilling practically hanging off his arm, though now she'd gone to holding his paw, and the Patrat didn't seem to mind. "I'll call you Horus, I suppose," Renly decided after a moment of pondering over the choices. Horus, yes, that was a nice name. The Patrat seemed to approve of him, and gave Renly what he thought was an appreciative nod.
"I guess move on," he decided. "I'm sure someone will be around to battle the further we go." That's always what he thought, anyway. Besides, battles weren't uncommon in the real world. They could sprout up at any moment. Renly numerous times had been late to classes simply because of a battle going on in the middle of the quad, and he had to dodge around it just to get by. Most professors understood how difficult it was do deal with the inconvenience of trainers, but some stated he was simply making 'excuses'. With a sigh through his nose, Renly shoved his hands into his pockets and moved forward, following through the route towards the first town he knew was only a short walk away from the map his aunts had given him.

She quirked a brow at the odd name, though she shouldn't be talking considering she had Noodle Rat and Trelawney as names for her Pokemon. She merely gave a simple nod. "I suppose you're right." No doubt there would be younger people crawling around wanting to battle with their low level Pokemon. Even if it was easy money, it vaguely made her feel like some sort of villain for thinking about it like that, though it could be worse. She could be stealing Pokemon from people like... What was their faces? She couldn't remember the name of the team that had been going around stealing Pokemon from those that they could. The further they walked along, the easier it became to see the outline of the town that they were supposed to go through, however with that there was the laughter and chatter of others.
Battling had stopped her from getting to her classes and numerous other places on time, it had driven her nuts. Though she could see how others got a thrill from it, even if she rather despised it. "Battles are something a bit of an inconvenience." She mumbled underneath her breath as she followed along. Taking her phone from her pocket, she glanced down at it occasionally, as Noodles sat high up on her shoulder. Trelawney kept pace with them, even going as far as to walk just the slightest bit ahead of them as if he was looking for the next battle.

The comment threw Renly in for a loop, and he couldn't help but release a bitter, humorless laugh at that as Mack tugged out her phone. "Better get used the inconvenience then," he breathed. Battling was... well, he had mixed feelings about the entire thing. On one hand, the risk was obviously there. He wasn't oblivious to the danger that lurked behind each and every battle. When he was younger, he recalled watching a young woman by the name of Eveline lose her Roserade in the Elite Four against Cynthia's Milotic. It... hadn't been easy to watch the rest of the battle, and while it was a risk all trainers took, it was also one that was sort of hidden behind the glamour of it all. Shaking his head, Renly sucked in a shaky breath as the Cherrygrove came into view.
Pink pastel houses dotted the small area the town owned. Houses could be seen near the edge of what Renly thought to be a river, while people milled about, mostly new trainers, all of which were lingering near the Pokémon Center. Sure, he'd visited the area before, but never as a trainer... and never on foot. Kitkat and Horus both blinked when they both spotted the commotion of some trainers taking up a chance to battle, which only had him shaking his head. At least, if they started off against weaker opponents, the chances of theirs getting hurt was slim... for now, at least. But he shook the thoughts from his head. He had little desire to go to the Elite Four, but having a few gym badges did have its perks on a resume, he supposed... maybe t hat'll satisfy his aunts enough for him to stop with this madness. "Let's stop by the Pokémart," Renly spoke up, mostly to his own Pokémon because he didn't know what Mack had in mind to do.

"Guess it could be worse." She huffed quietly, looking down at the two Pokemon following by her side. She had opened her texts and bit at her lip, seeing that her previous texts to the gym leader had gone unanswered despite being left on 'read'. Once inside the town she glanced around at the pink pastel houses and made a face. The colors were almost too overwhelming. "Well this is... something else." She mumbled almost bitterly at how happy the others seemed to be, though a few of the new trainers seemed to be weeping over a pokeball. No doubt having gotten to over eager and losing one of their first Pokemon along the route. She was glad that her and Renly had gotten out of the lab later than what the others had.
"Sounds like a plan. After that I'm gonna hit up the center and make sure noodles is at full health after dealing with Trelawney." She responded simply it was a good idea to stop at the mart first but then.. She wasn't quite sure what Renly wanted to do, the blue pokemart easy to make out against all the pastel houses of what seemed to be a too happy town for Mack's taste. She glanced over her shoulder before heading off in the direction of the shop, a few of the trainers hanging out around there as well, talking and making jokes while their Pokemon hung around eyeing up the others like competition. Eventually they'd have to start training for the first gym and Mack was less than thrilled about it in all honesty.
