Once upon a time in a land called The United States of America, there was a college. In his college, there were two people, and these people did not get along at all. Not for years. Though their dorms were just across the hall, they only spoke to one another in insults until it almost came tradition for them to greet each other with something rude. Both of them couldn't wait to get away from the other.
But alas! It was not to be. Because Aliens.
Yep, you heard me right. Aliens. Ya know, space creature people not from earth who are either drawn as super ugly or super pretty or super weird but never super normal? Yeah, them.
Anyway, the aliens came and took like most of the people from earth, only no one ever saw them come. It was all secretive and stuff. And a bunch of the humans disappeared in the middle of whatever they were doing, which could include driving, operating heavy machinery, and teaching a college class. Course that last one sounds like every student's dream, but it's not so fun when a bunch of people are dying everywhere and the governments and leaders across the world have disappeared. The ones who disappeared might be dead or alive, no one knows, but the death toll really came from things like people driving disappearing and everyone riding in the car dying, or that car hitting someone else driving. Prisoners escaping cause guards have vanished and wreaking havoc. People losing their minds cause there isn't anyone left to tell them what to do.
That was all very depressing. Moving on.
So these two yahoos lose their families and everyone is losing their minds and it turns out that, no matter how much they hate each other, they have both always been able to remain cool under pressure and don't have anyone else to turn to. Navigating this new world alone seems more terrifying than teaming up with someone they hate.
And tah da! There's our setting.

Shin-Il Ha || Shine || male || 21 || Shin-Il is a guy with too much time on his hands. Yes, even in college. He lives his days going from class to class in a major which was practically forced upon him by his parents, but who hasn't been through that? He's a fairly happy guy, though the millenial angst does hit him hard from time to time. He doesn't really like his full name, since it makes him very different from all the other American names he's around, so he goes by Shine. Shine is about 6'1, and skinnily built. He hasn't been to the gym since graduation, and isn't planning on changing that for a while. He's got a brother and a sister back at home, whom he loves, even though they're the biggest brats on this planet earth. He moved here with his family when he was only two years old, so the American life is what he is used to, even though his parents do try their best to keep old traditions alive. Shine likes to keep his light brown hair a little longer than usual, though not by much, since hair in his eyes is a big pet peeve. He secretly has a septum piercing, ears pierced and a little tattoo on his ankle. Drunken mistakes, he tells himself, even though he had wanted to get them for a while. If you were to ask him about his strengths he'd tell you that it's cooking and fast reflexes, while the things he finds difficulties with are getting accustomed to new surroundings and people. Shine suspects he has slight anxiety, but he hasn't bothered enough to get it checked out.

Name: Ivy Jade Adler || Ivy || Female || Twenty-Three A ball of sass, brains, beauty, and mischief. She may look sweet and innocent on the outside but don't be fooled, she's a ball of fire. Or perhaps ice would be a more accurate description, given that she is very pale. This and her naturally white-blonde hair used to bother her but after many years she began to accept it as unique and a part of her she would never want to trade. The biggest inconvenience comes from her being unable to expose herself in the sun for too long or she'll go from white to red in no time at all.

"We'll miss you, Shin-ah!" his mother said, tears welling in her eyes as she prepared to send her eldest child off to college. They had moved to this foreign country years ago to provide the best life possible for their children and after a lot of hard work, they finally managed it. Shin-Il was going to college, and not just any college, one of the colleges with the most brutal acceptance rates. It's an understatement to say that she was proud of her son. Her husband stood quietly next to her, nodding along with the woman's words. He'd never been much of a talker. "Don't get into trouble, alright?" he directed towards the son, who was standing in the doorway, holding the last bag which still needed to be packed into the car. This was Shin-Il. He had been accepted to Montgomery, the most prestigious college around, and he really didn't care for it. The boy had always wanted to go to culinary school, since he knew he was great at it. He had been cooking alongside his mother for almost two decades now, he felt like he could do it. But of course he wasn't going to tell his overly-expectant parents that, and went with their plan. 'If it makes them happy,' is the motto Shin-Il lives by. "I won't dad, don't worry. And I'll miss you as well mom." Shin-Il replied to the worried elders, giving a faint smile to cheer them up. Truth was he didn't really want to leave his home either, but it would be for the best. The school was a state away, which meant he wouldn't be able to come home for every weekend, maybe only holidays. "I think I should get going. Tell the squats that they cannot have anything from my room." the young man added with humor in his tone. "Yes, yes. It sure is a long drive away. Call us when you get there, yeah?" His mother started up again, obviously trying to stretch out the small amount of time they had left together even more. Shin-Il nodded at the request, "I will call you, though it will be pretty late once I get there." he told them and tapped the pocket which held his phone. "I have it right here, so you can call me when you go to bed." the man added and set down his bag to give his parents a last hug. "We'll see you soon, Shin-Il. Be good." his father muttered into his ear as he was hugging him. Shin-Il nodded into his shoulder and then pulled away, picking up the bag in the process. He gave his parents a little sad wave and left to his car.
----
The drive was long. He hadn't anticipated that it would be this long. He knew it was going to be long, but again, driving alone gives long distances a new meaning. He had about five pee breaks and burger breaks on the road, since the small amount of worry in the pit of his stomach made him hungry. Shin-Il kept thinking about the new place he was going to be at, all the new people, having to share a room with some complete stranger. It made him shudder on the inside and worry grow even more. Though, after all those hours of driving, he finally pulled into the campus parking lot. With a heavy sigh, Shin-Il removed his keys from the ignition and got out, setting his steps towards the only illuminated window - the registration office. The cool nights air was helping him relax and realize that it was not going to be as bad as he assumed. Everyone was going to be new in his year, and most likely none of them knew each other. This could be his new start, Shin-Il mused as he stepped into the registration office.
"Good evening, how can I help you?" a cheery voiced woman from behind the counter asked him. It took Shin-Il a second to process what he was doing, but eventually came back to reality. "I just arrived. Can I just leave my car and things there? How do I get to my dorm? Where is my dorm?" he bombarded the woman with questions, his speech growing more and more frantic with each question. He suddenly realized how badly prepared he'd been for the move in. "Alright, let's calm down there buddy." the woman calmly attempted to bring the boy back down to earth. "Can you start with giving me your name?"
After thirty minutes of filling in forms and listening to directions, Shin-Il had officially been written in. The registration woman had offered that she'll guide him to his dorm room, but he declined. The young man needed to pick up some essentials from his car anyway. On his way to his room he talked to his mother on the phone, reassuring her that everything was fine with him. He shared a few funny things he'd noticed during his drive and then it was time to hang up once again. Shin-Il had been climbing onto the second floor of the dorm house when he suddenly realized he actually had no clue which floor his room would be. The key said 721, but he hadn't asked the woman. Cautiously he began peeking into other floors' hallways in hopes of seeing someone who could be of help to him. By the time he had reached the fifth floor, the boy was ready to give up, but then he heard a voice. It was a female voice, talking in a hushed manned on the stairs a floor up. Taking in all the courage he had, Shin-Il trotted up the stairs, hoping to catch this girl and find some answers. At the very top of the stairs he came face to face with a very beautiful young woman. She had sheer blonde hair and cheekbones which could cut.
"Hey, I was wondering if you knew where this room was?" Shin-Il asked her, his voice wavering a bit under her gaze.

College was an adventure. She had been nervous coming in but had hidden that fear behind a thin wall of confidence, a facade at first though it grew and grew until that confidence had become real. Some people flocked to her for reasons she never quite understood and others seemed repelled by her, annoyed by the more forward aspects of her personality, no doubt, but she had stopped apologizing for them a long time ago. Granted, if she believed she was in the wrong she would apologize, but if someone got offended for the sake of getting offended or annoyed for the same reason, she would not.
Not that she hadn't had plenty of things to apologize for in the past, though. She had still been trying to work it through her mind that her unusual looks were good and there was nothing wrong with them when she had first come to college, and the sudden attention from all the guys had been flattering. Mostly older guys, eager for new hot blood. She had welcomed it eagerly. Problem was, she ended up causing problems in several relationships after discovering that the men were dating someone after it was too late, and then after all that, the more serious relationships she was in all ended up crashing and burning. So she just swore of them until after she was out of college and had done her best to make it up to the girls who had had their relationships wrecked. Some insisted she had seduced the men and wanted nothing to do with her, but others were willing to admit their boyfriends were disgusting cheaters and she actually became very close friends with some of them.
So anyhow, that was how her first couple of years had gone. Very interesting. She hadn't gone on a date in six months which was practically a world record for her since she had gotten into college and discovered all sorts of... things, but men were just not working out for her. And to think she had thought that men would be more mature in college.
What a joke.
But perhaps it would be best to leave her specific words about her opinions of most college men for another time. Her opinions were quite... strong, to say the least. Perhaps that was unfair since there were plenty of good men out there too and she had herself to blame for picking the bad ones, but that was her opinion all the same.
Still, avoiding dating didn't mean avoiding those kinds of men was any easier. They would always push themselves on women while drunk and it didn't help that she had already built up a reputation for being 'easy'. How she regretted that! It was just that she had enjoyed the attention and thought it was special and that they really liked her when it ended up just making her feel disgusted with them and herself and wishing she had been more careful.
So when someone spoke to her in the hallway, it didn't matter that the question was entirely innocent. She gave him the evil eye. So what if he was handsome? So what if he was the kind of guy she knew a lot of the girls would be talking about and swooning over before this night was even over? She was done with men. And wouldn't luck have it, his room was right across from hers.
Lovely.
But hey, she could be cordial at least. Hopefully, he wouldn't expect her to be TOO friendly but she could show him his room. Ivy nodded to him, albeit a bit stiffly. "This way," she said and turned abruptly on her heel to walk the very same direction she had been coming from.

Shin-Il was taken aback by the young woman's abruptness. He had imagined that women would be more straight forward once in college, but he had not expected that it would be to this extent. After she had walked away about three steps, he started after her, the backpack on his back feeling lighter now. At least she was able to help him out from this predicament.
They had walked in silence for a bit, making Shin-Il wonder if he should say anything. He felt his palms turn slightly clammy at the thought. He'd never been particularly good with girls. Do not get him wrong, he had had friends which were girls, but besides that, he steered clear of them. The way they snickered, the way they would talk about others behind their backs - he detested it.
"I'm Shine." he finally decided to introduce himself. It would be good to know someone at first, he rationalized to himself. The girl did not seem like someone who would stick around for too long. But knowing someone was good, always led to more connections. "What's your major?" he inquired, attempting to spark a conversation.

Ah, the questions. Always the questions. As if her guard wasn't up high enough, it went up even more despite the fact that he wasn't asking anything wrong. It was all very innocent. She had gone from one extreme to the other and didn't even realize it, and her friends didn't say much cause frankly, it was better than what she had been doing before. She hadn't seen all the quick flings as quick flings at first and had been broken-hearted when she was brushed off, so this was considerably better for her mental health -- and her grades.
"Ivy," she said shortly, taking a right down one of the halls. "Engineering. Here, your room is here. It's across from mine so that's how I know."
She didn't ask him what he was here for. She was definitely hoping that her telling him her room was across from his was something that he would take as an invite. For one, she had dormmates. For another, she was just telling him so he wouldn't think she was stalking him when he saw her around the rooms a lot.

Shin-Il nodded to Ivy's replies. Short and to the point. He could grow into liking this person even, he thought to himself as they arrived to the middle of a hallway. "Thanks." he told her. If it hadn't been for the sheer coincidence that he met her, it would've ended with a very embarrassing walk back to registration. "I'm also in engineering, first year." the boy added before sliding his key into the lock. "Maybe we'll see each other around then."
After a moment of silence, Shin-Il cleared his throat and unlocked the door fully. "It's been a long drive. Thanks for the help, Ivy." he excused himself, giving the blonde girl his best smile. One he knew usually would melt even the strictest of teachers. "I'm gonna hit the hay." Shin-Il added and slipped into his room.
It wasn't very spacious. There were two beds on either side of the room, a window in the middle. Tables sat under the large window, each sporing a very uncomfortable looking chair. The walls were hospital-esque. White and clinical. No personality to them.
Shin-Il was glad He had been the first to move in, picking the right side bed and plopping down on it.
This is my home now, he thought somberly.
Though he had used the long drive as an excuse to escape his awkward feeling, the boy did suddenly feel very tired. With a yawn he threw his shoes off, one hit the door with a loud bang whilst the other landed by the dresser. Slowly he fished out a light duvet from his bottomless backpack and eventually drifted off to sleep.

(We can skip it somewhere if you'd like after this. Wherever you want to go too!)
She didn't melt. Once she would have, but not now. Instead, she just quirked an eyebrow at him and nodded. Not only was her dorm across the hall from him, but they were majoring in the same thing... at least they were on different levels though. And even she had to grudgingly admit that he was polite enough and a lot better than a lot of other guys she could have gotten.
"You're welcome," she said and went back to what she had been doing for the interruption. It was a good thing she left early or she would have been late meeting her friends and dormmates to go out for coffee! Ivy was right on time, though, and she told them all about the new guy she had run into. They laughed at her attitude towards him and told her fondly to lighten up, knowing she had no intentions of doing so and then interrogated her about what he looked like until she finally changed the subject, saying they could all see him in person later.
(So yeah not much more to say rn XD)

(im gonna do the initial skip, aight?)
"Shine! We will be late!" boomed a voice from behind the bathroom door. The man in question was finishing up getting ready and his new friends hadn't gotten used to his regularly scheduled tardiness just yet. "I know, I know." Shin-Il responded in a rushed tone, hastily pulling his pants up his wet legs. It wasn't going as well as he had planned. "I'm stuck I can't get pants on guys, this is how I will die." he wailed back at them, tugging on the fabric harder and flailing his right leg in hopes of that smoothing the movement.
About five minutes later the young man finally emerged from the bathroom. "Honestly." Shin-Il sighed, picking up a plastic cup and chugging the contents. "Let's just go." he added, after slamming the cup down onto the table. He'd been going to classes for about two weeks now and this little group of guys just formed around him. He was glad, they were fun. Granted, a bit too much at times, but still fun.
The group filed out of the dorm room, ranting on about some home task none of them had started yet. Though, tonight wasn't the night to worry about such trivial things. It was hazing night. They'd been warned by tutors several times about the severity of this event, as well as how crucial it is that everyone attends. With nothing better to do on a Friday night, it sounded like the perfect time for a group of young guys.
